Dr. Akhtar Hossain has been a physician for over two decades having graduated with his Doctor of Medicine from the prestigious People's Friendship University in Moscow, Russia. He then did his residency in Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. Dr. Hossain did his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He also did a fellowship in Electroconvulsive Therapy at Columbia University.
Dr. Hossain is affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, formerly known as Somerset Medical Center, having previously served as the medical director of adult psychiatry.
Currently he is the Medical Director of the Family Guidance Center of Warren County.
His areas of expertise include: Psychopharmacology, addiction medicine, child psychiatry, cognitive impairment (dementia), and treating patients with dual diagnoses.
Committed to educating the public on the importance of mental health, Dr. Hossain has been featured in numerous television interviews and news articles on mental illness. With a profound love for medical education, Dr. Hossain continues to teach residents and fellows alike the art of practicing psychiatry. For over two decades, Dr. Hossain has been and continues to be successfully treating countless patients with addiction and mental illness.
